How AI platform Aristotle improves teacher efficiency and optimizes student learning

The context, the need 📍

Developed using sovereign generative AI, the Aristote platform was designed by CentraleSupélec students as part of the Paris Digital Lab and is specifically designed for the ESR (Etablissement de l'Enseignement Supérieur). ILLUIN Technology contributed its expertise to enrich the course materials and help the teachers. The main challenges were to facilitate learning, revision and improvement in all disciplines of higher education, thus helping to improve the success rate of undergraduate students.

The approach and key invoices for success 🏆

ILLUIN Technology implemented tailor-made solutions, integrating Open Source AI models. Each project is based on a methodology centered on :

- - Close collaboration with the Paris Digital Lab and Centrale Supélec's Information Systems Department
  - MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) to rapidly validate concepts and refine functionalities
  - Respect for the desire to create a platform based on sovereign generative AI

1. Aristo-Quizz

The need 💬

Generate titles, descriptions and quizzes from educational videos :

- Development of AI methods to enrich educational video content
- Import several videos and generate a website with tagging by theme, difficulty, domain
- Use of open source templates to avoid sending video transcripts to OpenAI

Based on audio or video content from a recorded lecture, an AI pipeline should output a quiz on the lecture to help teachers easily provide students with practice exercises.

The solution 💡

ILLUIN Technology has implemented the Aristo-quizz solution for various educational activities: creating quizzes or MCQs, proposing a revision plan and subtitling course videos.
The tool's functionalities :

- Automatic generation of transcripts for each course video on the platform using the Whisper template
- Generation of titles, descriptions and subtitles (multilingual) using the Open Source template, and identification of the course's disciplinary category: Mathematics, Life and Earth Sciences, ...
- Generate multiple quizzes for each course
- Ability for the teacher to filter out the most relevant quizzes
- Transcript search function

2. Aristo-cat

The need 💬

Design a platform that would be like a sovereign GPT chat to assist teachers, researchers and employees in their day-to-day work.

The solution 💡

ILLUIN Technology has set up the Open Source chat system Aristo-chat hosted in France by CentraleSupélec, enabling teachers, researchers and employees to be assisted by a trusted tool.
The solution is text-only.

3. Aristo-Plume

The need 💬

To design a complex data mining query tool to facilitate information retrieval by students and faculty, and to write articles from one's own or existing documents.
The aim of the project is to provide an MVP capable of speeding up and facilitating the retrieval of information from a library of scientific journals, and writing articles.

The solution 💡

From documents searched and selected in ArXiv (a library that centralizes English-language scientific journals), the Aristo-plumeRAG-based solution extracts information and writes articles in French or English (from all or part of the document), thanks to an article-writing module.
The solution also enables users to feed their own files into the tool, generating articles sourced from these imports.
It is also possible to obtain answers to questions asked directly in the tool, based on the analysis and extraction of data linked to the documents you submit.

Conclusion

The collaboration between the Paris Digital Lab, CentraleSupélec and ILLUIN Technology reflects the desire to innovate in the higher education sector through generative AI.
With these 3 achievements, the Aristote portal is now positioned as a solid Open Source and sovereign alternative to edtechs using OpenAI. Eventually, the vision is to make it available to the entire national research community.
