How has MAIF equipped itself with optimal MLOps infrastructures to scale up its AI projects?

The context, the need 📍

In a constantly changing environment, digital transformation is becoming an essential lever for companies wishing to remain competitive. MAIF, a major player in the French insurance industry, has embraced this shift by integrating AI into its services, in order to improve the customer experience and optimize its internal processes.

Faced with the growing adoption of AI in various use cases - automatic generation of responses, synthesis of telephone conversations, optimization of assistance processes - a new challenge has emerged: moving from experimentation to industrialization. This process involves scaling AI solutions, as well as integrating robust tools for observability (monitoring, alerting), data security and governance. MAIF also expressed the need to structure a "Technical Watch" dedicated to MLOps and LLM Ops practices, combining on-premise and cloud infrastructures via Azure, to guarantee both flexibility and compliance with stringent regulatory requirements.

The approach, the solution 🛠

To meet these challenges, our team was asked to help MAIF industrialize its AI solutions and implement a solid approach to MLOps (Machine Learning Operations) and LLM Ops (Large Language Model Operations). The aim is twofold: to make research and development pipelines more reliable, while facilitating the rapid production launch of AI solutions.

We proposed a hybrid approach combining cloud (via Azure) and on-premise infrastructures to meet security, compliance and performance requirements. The integration of MLOps and LLM Ops processes not only ensures the reproducibility of AI experiments, but also guarantees continuous monitoring, from design to production deployment.

Main activities performed ✅

The industrialization of AI services at MAIF required the implementation of numerous technical solutions and specific optimizations.
Here are the main activities carried out:

    • Consolidation of AI teams: We have strengthened our in-house skills in MLOps and LLM Ops, providing tools and frameworks for better model lifecycle management (tracking, deployment, monitoring).
    • Integration of MLOps solutions into R&D pipelines : The addition of experiment tracking and reproducibility solutions via MLflow has helped to structure AI development processes while improving data and model traceability.
    • Optimization of AI pipelines: We have optimized performance via distributed calculations and data quality, integrating real-time pipelines with Apache Kafka for fluid processing at large scale.
    • Implementing storage solutions: Deploying feature stores to centralize AI functionalities and improve data access and exploitation throughout the model lifecycle.
    • Deployment and monitoring of LLMs: LLMs have been deployed on Azure with real-time monitoring solutions, covering use cases such as automatic response generation and conversation synthesis, with continuous monitoring to avoid model drift.

The results, the benefits obtained ✨

The results of this collaboration with MAIF are tangible on several levels, with immediate benefits in terms of the performance and reliability of AI solutions.

📊 Reliable, high-performance AI solutions in production

The integration ofAI solutionsin production has made both internal processes and customer services more reliable. Scaling models via the Azure cloud and optimized pipelines have significantly improved performance while guaranteeing better data management.

🧑‍💻 Improving internal skills and autonomy

Thanks to team consolidation and the adoption of best practices in MLOps and LLM Ops, MAIF's teams have strengthened their skills in managing the lifecycle of AI models. This now enables them to be more autonomous in the management and evolution of their AI solutions.

👀 Observability and safety of AI services

The implementation of monitoring, alerting and model security tools has enabled continuous monitoring of AI solution performance, guaranteeing rapid detection of anomalies and prevention of model drift. Securing data and pipelines has also boosted confidence in these systems.

Conclusion

The industrialization of AI solutions at MAIF has transformed experimentation into a real competitive lever. By integrating robust, scalable and secure pipelines, while implementing rigorous governance via MLOps and LLM Ops practices, MAIF is now positioned at the forefront of AI innovation. Thanks to this approach, the company is in a position to meet future challenges while guaranteeing operational excellence and continuous service improvement.
